Good Family Dog Breeds

About Me
Choosing New Pets

I have always loved animals, but when my son announced that he wanted a new pet, I had to stop and think about it for awhile. I was nervous that it would make messes throughout my house, and I wasn't sure that he was capable of looking after the animal like he should. I began thinking about how to streamline his experience, and within a few days, we had agreed on a pet we could both love: a cute little parakeet. This website is for anyone out there who is thinking about adding a pet or two to their home.

If you are looking for a good family dog, then you have so many breeds to choose from. However, the breed you choose should take a good amount of thought beforehand, so you know that you are bringing home a new family member that will fit right in with your family, as well as your lifestyle. Here are a few different breeds that are known for being great family dogs, as well as the different benefits that each breed brings with it:

German Shepherd – A German Shepherd is a common dog that a lot of families find is the right choice for them. It is a large dog with a coat that requires regular brushing, but not much more than that and the occasional bath when it comes to grooming needs. German Shepherds tend to bond well with the whole family, and they can be quite protective of their home and their family. This makes them a good choice if you are looking for a dog that will love everyone it is around regularly, but also help to protect you from intruders. This breed does require regular exercise, such as a yard to run in or frequent walks and time in the dog park.

Cocker Spaniel – A Cocker Spaniel is a medium-sized dog that may be a good fit if you live in a smaller-sized home with limited space in the yard. This type of dog also makes a great family dog, and it is known for being friendly, while still remaining loyal to its own family. Cocker Spaniels tend to have a good amount of energy so that children can have a lot of fun with them, but they can also be content to lay at your feet and spend a good amount of time relaxing. They require regular bathing and brushing, as well as routine grooming trips to have their fur trimmed.

Golden Retriever – A Golden Retriever is another fantastic choice if you are looking for a family dog. This is another larger breed of dog, and it has long soft, and golden fur. Golden Retrievers need regular baths and brushings to make sure they don't end up with matted fur, due to its length. They have an abundance of energy at the puppy and adolescent age, but calm down after they are a few years old, to be more content laying at your feet. They are known for being very smart, friendly and loyal.
