Want The Perfect Family Dog? Choose A Golden Retriever

About Me
Choosing New Pets

I have always loved animals, but when my son announced that he wanted a new pet, I had to stop and think about it for awhile. I was nervous that it would make messes throughout my house, and I wasn't sure that he was capable of looking after the animal like he should. I began thinking about how to streamline his experience, and within a few days, we had agreed on a pet we could both love: a cute little parakeet. This website is for anyone out there who is thinking about adding a pet or two to their home.

If you have a family, you will not find a better dog than a golden retriever. These dogs are not only beautiful but they also absolutely love their family. Below is more information about this breed so you can decide if you and your family would like this.

Affectionate and Loving

As stated above, golden retrievers, often called goldens, love their family tremendously. They are loyal to everyone and sometimes they will have a favorite but not always. Even if they do, they still love the whole family the same.

The worse place to keep a golden retriever is outside. They need to be in the house with their family. They need to be around the people they love on a regular basis. They will choose a place to sleep at night and usually will go to the same place every night. This could be a couch if you let them on the furniture or someone's bed or room. You may wake up with a dog on you at night.

Taking Care of a Golden

One thing about golden retrievers it they can get hot spots during hot weather. These spots appear like small sores and will get larger. They are painful for them. There really is nothing you can do to not get them, but you can get medicine to take care of the hot spots. Contact your veterinarian to find the best medicine for this. It will take a few days for the hot spots to go away.

Another thing about goldens is they generally have a bad smell whether you give them a bath or not. Their hair will feel a little oily at all times. You will get used to the smell. They also do shed and need to be brushed a few times a week. Purchase a brush that removes undercoat hair as this is where most of the shed hair comes from. These are the only bad things about these dogs. Everything else will make up for it.

Exercise

Goldens are not hyper dogs at all, but they do need exercise. You can take a daily walk with them and that would be enough. If you have a yard and a home, take them in the backyard every day when there is nice weather and throw a ball to them or other toys. Take them to a dog park that you may have in your area. This will help them be around other animals and help them socialize with people.
